There are numerous different poker hands in the game when you examine the spectrum of game variations on offer, and it can be confusing for beginners to understand these hands.

It is best to start with one of the simpler forms of poker in order to grasp the basics of poker hands. You will find games such as Five Card Draw and Texas Holdem share the same list of hand rankings, as many poker games do. The complexities are not in understanding this list of hand rankings, but often the way these poker hands are made. In different games, a player may be holding differing numbers of cards, have some community cards or no community cards, and might only be able to use certain numbers of cards from their hand.

Texas Holdem has two cards in each players hands, with five community cards. Players can use one, two, or none of their hole cards to form the best possible five card hand, whereas in Omaha, you must use two of your four hole cards no matter what.

Once you understand these basic principles of poker hands you can begin to grasp concepts such as reading what hands your opponent might have by their betting and the board cards. You may then understand concepts such as representing hands you do not have, in order to scare opponents out of pots. It is often best to learn one game first, and once you are completely comfortable with reading hands in any given situation, you will find it much easier to grasp somethng a little more complex such as Omaha hi/lo.

Poker promos online serve an important function for players onsite. Firstly, they offer ways for players to expand their bankroll whilst playing.

Many players out there will be players that break even through poker play alone, but can register a profit through promos, rakeback and other bonuses. Promos are an incentive for regular players to keep playing, as much as they are an incentive for non depositing players to make that first deposit and start playing for real money.

Most poker rooms online offer promos of some sort, and so they must be universally accepted as being beneficial to poker rooms. It would be difficult to gauge just how much extra revenue is generated by each promotional offer, but it is largely irrelevant. When you consider that if a poker room does not offer promos, they look a less attractive poker room to join than those which do offer promos, you can see that poker rooms have to offer promos.

Promotional offers usually range from first time deposit bouses, friend referral bonuses, through to special tournament types, and criteria which can result in a cash payout if fulfilled whilst playing. Cracked aces cash bonuses would be an example of this.

Most poker promos will be listed on a poker rooms home page, and they are well worth keeping an eye on, because sometimes, very profitable opportunities present themselves.  Around three years ago PaddyPowerPoker offered a standard cash bonus for pocket aces beaten at ring game tables, and of course many players simply multi tabled all day, collecting a generous bonus in the process.  Promos are important both for the poker rooms involved, and the players who participate in them.

The best poker plays can only really be judged in the context of each situation, and can range from a brilliant play to earn some chips, or a great fold to prevent losing chips.

Good plays can often be stumbled into by weaker players who make a move in hope, which just happens to work out perfectly. I do not think you could call these the best poker plays, as I think you would have to understand the implications of your play relating to your estimations of an opponents likely holdings in order to qualify. The best plays are very often a result of reading your opponents hand, their understanding of your image, and using these points to your advantage. Somtimes you will even have to force a bluff through with far more cunning and talent, if an opponent knows you are likely to bluff often.

Sometimes the most effective poker plays are simple. Making the perfect value bet at each turn of a board card to extract the maximum is always good poker play. Also, laying down a big hand which is beaten, even though you may have waited an hour to be dealt it, is disciplined, and is good poker play.

The nature of poker is such that the best poker plays in a game can turn out to be meaningless in terms of the end result, or equally, they can turn a tournament around for you. You should always bear in mind that the most important point is not necessarily if your stack is going in the right direction at that moment in time. If you are making the best poker plays you can in the circumstances, you are giving yourself the best shot at still being alive when your luck decides to change, which it inevitably will somewhere down the line.

Poker, an exciting card game, has a number of variants. The differences among these variants lie in the way players deal cards and form hands, betting limits, number of betting rounds, and so on. Players argue that poker is not gambling because only the initial bet is forced. After that, players voluntarily place money in the pot because they feel that they have a good hand.

Although luck is among the major factors responsible for poker success, top poker stars do not rely on luck alone. They know that in order to be successful, they require sound knowledge of game strategies as well as skills. The ability to observe opponents and guess their next move is also important.

Recently, poker has moved into the exciting world of the Internet. Thanks to online poker, more and more players are now showing healthy interest in the game. In fact, people prefer online poker owing to the factors of flexibility, choice of games, game speed, multiple tables, low stakes and large payouts, promotions, offers, bonuses, online communities, and many more. Besides, players can win attractive prize packages to major live poker events such as World Series of Poker right from the comforts of home.

Interested players can register at reputed online gaming sites that offer poker as a gaming option. It is difficult to gauge the best poker professionals in terms of skill, as some may argue that the amount of bracelets or titles you hold only equates to your skill relative to fields made up largely of amateurs.

There is no doubt that extracting chips from weaker players is a skill in itself, but the true test has to be when you pit the best in the world against each other. The best poker professionals are not only to be judged by what they achieve on the felt however, as the mark of a true professional is in the way they conduct themselves, and their actions away from the table.

The question of who the best poker professional is, will always be a question with varying opinions. But to me, the best poker professionals have to tick a number of boxes to qualify. Firstly, I would say that to be judged a great poker professional, you have to play with style and ocassionally make plays that really cause people to sit up and take notice. You also must be a very dignified and approachable player away from the table, doing what you can to raise the profile of poker as the wonderful and sociable game that it is.

Certainly you could say that those players who do a lot of charity work behind the scenes are great professionals and ambassadors for poker, but of course this is not compulsory to be considered the best poker professional. Most of all, I think the best poker professionals are those that treat all their opponents with respect, whether they made a terrible or great play against you, and regardless of whether your hand stood up or not. Being respectful, creative in your play, winning against the best, are all key points when looking for the best poker professionals.

It is always difficult to gauge just how much you should rely on physical tells you get from poker players when playing live. Much depends on the strength of the player I feel, and your perception of their ability to disguise, or even intentionally give false tells about their poker hand.

To play an online poker game click here!

Sometimes when you reach for chips and start counting out a raise, you will find that a poker player of limited skill might be sat forward watching you intently if they have a strong poker hand. You might also find that poker players who are planning to fold their hands are looking elsewhere and not paying attention. These tells become less useful when playing against skilled opponents however, but that doesn’t mean you cannot pick up anything at all from these poker players.

Some poker players speak of tells such as hands shaking, or even seeing a quickening or more pronounced pulse in the neck, but these tells are not accurate usually. You only have to think about the fact that a persons pulse rate could quicken whether they have a monster hand, or are making a huge bluff, to see these are not reliable ways to tell how strong someone is.

Often you might find that a poker player asks how many chips another person has left when they are in a big pot. It is possible sometimes to detect confidence, or a poker player simply trying to act confident by their voice, but again, these are not always easy to decipher. Overall the best physical tells in poker are probably body language and where they are looking (if they are not wearing sunglasses).

Since the launch of online gambling and the popularity surrounding it, many players have found themselves struggling with spending little as depositing is so easy and winning big cash amounts is tempting.

The sad fact is that as soon as online poker began and online bingo became so accessible, the number of people with responsible betting and gambling issues rose. Thankfully, years on, the whole idea of online poker and responsible betting has been completely addressed and now online gamblers and online poker players can play their favourite games safe in the knowledge that they are playing responsibly and that there are options of help there.

Depositing on an online poker site is so easy and because no real hard cash is ever in your hand, it can sometimes be quite difficult to view the money that you are depositing as real money. This is the reason why some people find it quite difficult to stop depositing the extra cash they need to survive on. Now, by playing at sites like Poker Stars, you can be sure that if you need help, there is a parade of help available.

As well as allowing their members to set their own deposit limits, Poker Stars have implemented a feature that allows players to exclude themselves from the site for a certain amount of time. If a player feels they have spent too much and do not trust themselves around the site, Poker Stars allow their poker players to easily block themselves from the site for anything from 12 hours to a whole 6 months. Accounts can also be fully closed at request of the player too.

Another fantastic poker site that also does this is Absolute Poker. If you feel you’re spending too much and feel you cannot gamble responsibly, limit your deposits by using the online tool of your preferred site or speak to GamCare.

The past history of poker has been both lengthy, and short, in it’s own ways. The origins of the game itself can be traced back hundreds of years, but until very recently, the game was played in secluded places, shunned by many decent everyday people. For this reason, we have only really seen famous poker players become known over the past 30 years or so, and with a huge rise in the number of famous names in the past 5-10 years.

The early heroes of poker came in the form of Johnny Moss and Doyle Brunson, both of whom won the WSOP main event more than once. The eighties saw Johnny Chan win the main event twice consecutively, and he made it to the last two players in the following year of 1989, only to be stopped by a very young Phil Hellmuth.
That same Phil Hellmuth currently holds the record for the most World Series of Poker bracelets with 11, and is a modern hero of the game to some.

To others, his berating of opponents at the tables would exclude him from being deemed a great champion of poker, but he has certainly made himself famous in the process. The growth of online poker has brought us a whole new generation of famous poker players, and it is interesting to see their progress when they move into the world of live play with the best players around. These famous poker players will often seem to have a charmed life with sponsorships and the like, but they do fill an important role in poker. The famous poker players create a public image for poker, helping it to be accepted as a clean and skilled game.
